Massive congratulations to our senior ladies and management team who were crowned county champions for the 6th year in a row with a fantastic victory over Clonguish on Saturday. This team made history, becoming the first team in Longford to secure 6 senior titles in a row.
Our ladies led from start to finish in a great final once again between the two sides. First half points from Grace, Kate and Orla saw our ladies take a good lead early on, despite a few points of there own from Clonguish, a well taken Caoimhe Lohan goal before the half sent our ladies into the dressing rooms with a 4 point lead. With the wind heavy in the first half that made shooting from distance difficult, rainfall for the second half made things harder. A quick point at the start from Grace put Slashers in the driving seat. However following on from that, a goal from Clonguish had only 1 point separating the sides. Despite this our ladies didn't let this rattle them as they kept composure throughout the important stages of the game where Kate, Grace and Clodagh added more to the board.
Shoutout to the newly appointed management team of Ciaran, Paddy, Aaron, Gareth and Danny who continued on the successful legacy with our ladies as they secured a league and championship double in their first season.
Best of luck to the ladies as they now prepare for Leinster Championship, fixture details TBC.
Senior Mens Football
On Friday evening last the seniors took on Dromard in the delayed replay of the Div 1 relegation semi final. Both sides cancelled each other out in the early stages of the first half, however a goal for Dromard towards the end of the half saw us trailing at half time by 1-06 to 0-5. The goal continued to be the difference between the sides for the first 15 minutes of the second half as Slashers tried to work their way back into the game. Unfortunately however it was Dromard who finished the strongest and pulled away for the win. This now places us in a relegation final with Mostrim this Saturday 12th Oct at 7pm in Allen Park (Newtown Forbes).
The Juniors are preparing for the Junior A county final this weekend and we hope to see plenty of support on the day. We face local rivals Grattans in Pearse Park, this Sunday 13th of October at 1.45pm.
U-21 Mens
The U-21 squad will begin preparing for competition over the coming weeks. The Junior management team of Derek Swaris and Niall Caslin will be in touch with players over the coming days.
