There was no men's football on the pitch last weekend, however both Senior and Junior mens squads are preparing for important Championship encounters this coming weekend. Our Seniors take on Kenagh in a relegation playoff this Friday evening, 27th Sept at 8.00pm in Páirc Chiaráin, Cashel.

The following afternoon, Sat 28th Sept, our Juniors head for Pearse Park for the Junior A Championship semi final Vs Killoe at 3.30pm. Our lads very narrowly edged the group stage game, so this is lined up to be a very interesting encounter. The Junior squad are pictured in the main article image.

We urge as many as possible to support the two sides this weekend. Tickets available at Longford GAA - https://longfordgaa.ie/tickets-clubs/

Hurlers
Commiserations to our hurlers who narrowly lost out to Wolfe Tones on Sunday last in the 2024 county final. Slashers fought back from a five point deficit to make it a one point game as the game entered extra time. Unfortunately the crucial score never came, and Wolfe Tones finished up winning by two points, 2-15 to 3-10.

Ladies
Massive congratulations to our senior ladies and management team who had a great win on Sunday afternoon over Carrickedmond in the senior championship semi-final. The game finished up Longford Slashers 5-12 to Carrickedmond 1-5. Particular mention to Clodagh Lohan who finished with a tally of 4-02.

The ladies now prepare for their 6th consecutive senior championship final, with Clonguish to be their opponents as per the previous two finals. Fixture details TBC.

Donal Brady RIP
Our club are in mourning following the unexpected death of Donal Brady, after a brief illness. His passing has left a void which will be difficult to fill, such was his contribution to the Flipeadoiri in many aspects, but particularly so during his tenure as Chairman, when we won 3 senior championships and 1 senior league title.

He set goals in which he invested sponsorship, time, focus, initiative and boundless energy into and his sense of humour was an added bonus. He is regarded as being in the top echelon of those who guided the club over the past 70 years.

While our loss is palpable, our thoughts are especially with his family. His wife Mary, son Dermot (who contributed hugely to the club over the past 30 years), his daughters Catherine, Sinéad, Valerie and Marie and extended families, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy

Ar dheis De go raibh a anam 🙏
Donal Brady RIP
