Both our Senior and Junior football sides had successful returns to championship action last week.

First up, on Wednesday evening under lights was the Juniors against Clonguish in Allen Park. In the first half, both sides were cancelling each other out until Chris Erhagbe pounced on a loose ball to slot home the first goal. Slashers had the wind in the second half, and maintained the lead with a second goal mid way through the half. Clonguish came back into the game and their pressure almost forced a draw through a last minute penalty. However the penalty went over the bar and Slashers held on for a two point win. Final score of 0-11 to 2-7.

On Sunday afternoon the Seniors took on Mullinalaghta in Rd 4. This was a key fixture in the very tight Group B and Slashers got off to a strong start, leading by 0-4 to 0-1 after 15 minutes and headed in at half time with a two point lead. In tricky windy conditions in Mostrim, this was a relatively cagey game. However Slashers put in a great second half performance and managed to maintain their lead throughout, closing out the game with a three point win. Final score 0-10 to 0-7.

As we enter the 5th and final round of the group stages, only Abbeylara have guaranteed their place in the quarter finals. The top four teams go through, and as it stands, any of the remaining teams in group B can still qualify depending on the results over the final round this weekend.

Both sides will look to build on these results this week:

- Juniors: Friday 30th August at 8.00pm Vs Legan in Michael Fay Park.
- Seniors: Saturday 31st August at 7.00pm Vs Dromard in Monaduff, Drumlish.

It's very important to note that as per last year, no Senior Championship tickets will be available on the gate. All tickets must be bought online in advance at the Longford GAA Website:
https://longfordgaa.ie/tickets-clubs/

Best of luck to the ladies as they continue their Championship campaign this Sunday 1st Sept at 11am Vs Killoe, in Emmet Park Killoe.

We hope to see plenty of support this weekend for all three sides.
