Senior Football
Both our senior and junior squads were in league action last weekend. The seniors lost out to Clonguish in Div 1 at home on Friday night. In good playing conditions, the game was neck and neck for the first twenty minutes. However Clonguish managed to pick off two goals at the end of the first half, resulting in an 8 point lead at half time. In the second half Slashers got off to a strong start and pushed for goals to reduce the deficit. Unfortunately the goals wouldn't come, with the best chance coming with 10 minutes to go, which would have brought it to a three point game. That was as good as it would get, as Slashers went down to 14 men shortly afterwards and Clonguish finished out the game with another goal and a number of points. Final score, Slashers 0-8, Clonguish 3-12.

Our Div 3 side were in action on Sunday afternoon in sunny conditions in Dromard. In a high scoring game, it was goals that made the difference between the two sides. The home side picked up two goals in the first half to Slashers one. In the second half as Slashers pushed for scores, Dromard counter attacked well and slotted 3 further goals, closing out hopes of a second half comeback. Slashers did manage a further goal in the second half, but the Dromard defence closed it out and didn't allow any further chances. Final score Dromard 5-10 to Slashers 2-09.

Next up for the seniors in Div 1 is Abbeylara, away, on Friday 3rd May at 7.30pm. The Div 3 side have a break this weekend and next up for them is a home fixture vs Clonguish on Saturday 11th May at 7pm.

As always, we would love to see a big support for these sides.

Training continues on Tuesday and Friday evenings, with Junior players and new or returning players always welcome.

Slashers bright prospect Seán Tiernan made an important contribution on the Moyne team who were victorious last week in the schools final (Fr. McGee Cup). Seán is a busy player being part of a number of our club teams and progressing well through the levels. Congrats to Seán and Moyne on the victory. Go néirí an t-adh leat Seán.

Great to see two Slashers stalwarts Dónal Sheahan and Zach Tunstead representing Flipeadóirí Longfoirt at a CLG tournament held in Prague last week with Dónal representing his university in Prague and Zach his in Warsaw. Looking forward to seeing both these senior players in sky blue colours at the club next month when they return after their studies in Poland and Czechia.
